Established in 2019, HiCura Medical Pte Ltd is a National University of Singapore spinoff that empowers medical professionals by using AI to enable automatic image-based guidance during medical procedures.
Based in Singapore, this medtech startup is reinventing the gold standard in healthcare by building intelligent solutions. Its star product, uSINE, addresses one of the most challenging procedures to perform in anesthesiology whereby it improves ultrasound visualisation and identification of the epidural space so anesthesiologists can be guided to the precise needle location during epidural or spinal anesthesia.
To date, uSINE has undergone numerous clinical trials and is adopted by KK Womens’ and Childrens’ Hospital in Singapore to aid anesthetists to administer epidural more accurately to women in labor. It has also achieved a success rate of 92 percent for 1st needle puncture attempts, far higher than the global first attempt success rate of 50 to 60 percent.
In a conversation with #biztechasia Cailin Ng, CEO of HiCura Medical Pte Ltd shares insights into the development and technology behind uSINE, the startup’s collaboration with KK Women’ and Children’s’ Hospital and NUS National Neuroscience Institute and her entrepreneurship journey to date.
