Vistas Media Capital (VMC) is a Singapore-based media investment firm that invests in a variety of media-related enterprises, corporations, and assets in the private and capital markets.
Abhayanand Singh, the CEO and Co-Founder, first developed a passion for the entertainment industry during his childhood in India. During the conversation, he shares an overview of VMC and its business model, and also talks about his entrepreneurial journey from an investment banker to founding his own media investment company. He points out some of the challenges faced when setting up the company, particularly a media investment company in Asia.
VMC plans to launch a US$150 million fund for special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs), which is part of the company’s expansion plans into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Abhayanand tells us why they focus their attention to this region, their approach and how they identify the target companies to acquire or merge through their SPAC arm.
He also talks about their earlier merger with Spotify rival, Anghami, the leading music streaming platform in the MENA region, which led them to be listed on the Nasdaq in the US.
Abhayanand gives us insights and the direction of the current media and entertainment landscape in Asia, and how the pandemic has transformed the industry.
He also tells us about their expansion into blockchain with the recently launched Fantico, a non-fungible token (NFT) platform featuring collectibles from Indian music, film, sports, and arts entertainers, and the underlying potential he sees in it.
And finally, Abhayanand shares some insights into where he sees VMC is moving towards and the focus markets they are looking into.
