Jeff shares his views on regional markets performances and also his views on key issues namely:
- the global energy crunch and its impact on prices.
- India is also teetering on the edge of a power crisis, not just China. As of Oct 6, 80 percent of India’s 135 coal-powered plants had less than 8 days of supplies left – more than half of those had stocks worth two days or fewer. The power crisis would likely have an immediate impact on India’s nascent economic recovery which is being led by industrial activity instead of services.
Jeff gives his insights into economies who are benefiting positively as well as negatively from the run up in prices. He also talks about the inflation story, and as it gathers momentum we’re going to see Asian currencies under pressure aka the Yen overnight;
- particularly those countries that are net energy importers like India, as that is priced and transacted in dollars
Lastly, Jeff talks about the fact that the fed taper tantrum is still in play as the world has yet to price in the reality of the end of US QE. This potentially could be negative for equities.
