A fast-deteriorating humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Ukraine where hundreds of thousands of civilians are trapped in besieged cities without water, food and electricity as Russian troops continue to press deep into the country.
Since President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion on February 24, more than two million civilians have fled the country in what is the fastest-growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
According to the UN refugee agency, at least 160,000 people have been displaced within Ukraine itself and it is preparing for up to seven million internally displaced persons and as many as seven million refugees which would be the largest war related migration since the Balkan Wars of the 1990s.
To shed light on the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine as well as the situation on ground in the country, we spoke to Ukraine’s Ambassador to Singapore, Kateryna Zelenko.
During the conversation, Ms. Zelenko spoke about:
- The latest developments on the diplomatic front in the last 24 hours.

- The resistance by Ukraine against Russian invasion.
- Her perspective of the humanitarian crisis that is impacting the people of Ukraine.
