An interview with Jon Lambe, UK Ambassador to ASEAN

During our conversation with His Excellency Jon Lambe, he spoke about his current capacity as the United Kingdom Ambassador to ASEAN, a relatively new position created by the United Kingdom (UK) with the aim of further engaging and strengthening its partnership with ASEAN and its member states. 

He also spoke about the economic and foreign policy opportunities in this region, the UK’s trade relationship with ASEAN countries, including its priorities to engage as an active dialogue partner whilst simultaneously building on existing collaboration and exploring new ways for political-security, economy and socio-cultural cooperation.

• Defense corporation and where the UK see its role in the South China Sea
• An overview of the UK’s trade relationship with ASEAN and what this trade picture looks like currently
• Businesses opportunities in ASEAN and where the UK sees opportunities to attract young businesses to invest in the country
• Key potential developments and highlights to watch out for in the next 12 months

Furthermore, he spoke about the close ties between the UK and ASEAN when it comes to promoting cultural, educational and social understanding and how these areas will be further developed, moving forward.
