Named one of the Top 20 most influential female scientists in the Muslim World and the founder of the Centre of Excellence for Research in AIDS at the University of Malaya, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Adeeba Kamarulzaman is an ASM fellow who specialises in HIV/AIDS.
She currently serves as a Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. In 2020, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Adeeba became the first Asian President of the International AIDS Society. Her work has led to the reduction of new HIV/AIDS infections by 50 percent in the past decade. Currently, she is the chairman of the Malaysia Aids Foundation, raising funds for HIV prevention and treatment programmes in Malaysia.
In an insightful conversation, Professor Dr. Adeeba speaks passionately about her work to combat HIV/AIDS, including the importance of creating awareness of these infectious diseases amongst the general population.
